My Statement of Purpose

I have always been interested in how data tells a story. As a front-end web developer for the last 20 years, my experience with data has mostly been gathering and analyzing web engagement and user data to drive design and marketing campaign decisions.

I am ready to move deeper into data and explore how data can be gathered and processed to tell a story about performance, future potential, and so much more!

Through research and personal interviews with three current Data Scientists, I learned three traits of a good data scientist include:

1. Curiosity – I am a life-long learner that is always asking how and why

2. Creative problem solver – solving problems is what makes me tick

3. Communicator – I’ve been in Communications for 30 years, since I started as a radio DJ at 18.

I have an end-user mindset and can convey complex ideas into easily understood principles. I have a background in backend and frontend tech focusing on database-driven web content management systems, APIs, and spreadsheet-driven data visualization.

As an advocate for neurodiverse kids, I am already dreaming about how data science can improve the lives of kids that are the square pegs in a round hole world.
